An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Journalist/Reporter to join a successful publishing house who produce monthly local and regional lifestyle magazines. The successful candidate is likely to have an academic background in Journalism or Media, NCTJ helpful but not essential, have an excellent command of English grammar, spelling and comprehension, be motivated and work well in a collaborative team environment. As Journalist/Reporter, your responsibilities will include: Sourcing stories and features for the magazines Proofing articles to ensure grammar and spelling is correct Proofing other reporters' magazines Conducting interviews for stories both in person and over the phone Managing/creating news lists Ensuring the magazines have a balance of editorial coverage (news, crime, features) Suggesting cover ideas (headlines and pictures) to the news editor Writing catchy headlines and picture captions Liaising with the other reporters to keep track of the progress of the magazines Maintaining strong relationships with the local contacts, e.g. MPs local councillors, and residents Updating Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts daily Creating weekly videos on local stories, ensuring a variety of topics are covered. The successful Journalist/Reporter will need to be creative, resourceful, communicative and able to meet tight deadlines with efficient and eye-catching copy.
