About the department Our Human Rights team act for individuals, groups and organisations which brings challenges against public authorities (such as government bodies, local authorities, and agencies), in a range of areas such as civil liberties, human rights breaches, community care, and regularly acts in Inquest & Court of Protection cases. About the role The successful candidate will work within a dynamic team that specialises in private and public law challenges, Inquests and Court of Protection. The work will include human rights and discrimination claims against private and public bodies on behalf of vulnerable individuals. The role is for a fixed term of one year to assist a Partner and cover part of a caseload for a period of maternity leave, but there is scope for it to be extended should there be a business need. A well-established, legal 500 law firm are seeking a highly experienced Child Panel Solicitor to join their thriving team in London. The ideal candidate should possess strong connections with CAFCASS guardians, excel in technically complex care proceedings, and be recognised as an expert in public children law. Key Responsibilities: Managing a caseload primarily focused on public law children cases, alongside some private law children and domestic abuse cases. The candidate will be expected to undertake advocacy on cases and occasionally represent colleagues, staying abreast of legal developments, particularly in children law, and sharing knowledge within the team. Familiarity with LAA contract requirements, effective team supervision, meeting time recording and billing targets, adherence to risk and compliance practices, and proactive marketing of oneself, the team, and the firm are essential components of the role. The Ideal Candidate: A qualified Child Panel Solicitor with 8 years PQE Established relationships with CAFCASS guardians. The candidate should demonstrate technical excellence in children law, experience in complex care proceedings, expertise in public children law, and a history of successful advocacy. Track record of meeting billing and time recording targets, familiarity with LAA contract requirements, supervisor status as per LAA requirements, experience in supervising junior team members, and a proactive and driven approach. Excellent communication skills Ability to prioritise tasks and work well under pressure. Problem-solving skills, legal research abilities, self-motivation, and the capacity to motivate and support others are also crucial. Proficiency in IT, enthusiasm, energy, and strong marketing, networking, and business development skills are desired.
