School of Computers, Engineering & Physical Sciences (CEPS) Company Based (WellFish Tech Ltd, Paisley) Fixed Term: 16 months THE POST - KTP Associate - Data Scientist/Computer Engineer We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with relevant experience in data science / computer engineering to work on an aquaculture-based project funded under the Innovate UK, Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) and WellFish Tech Ltd. This KTP project seeks to embed advanced digitisation and AI knowledge and expertise within WellFish Tech, enhancing their core fish health monitoring service, improving Tech, and introducing a new advanced prognostics service across a range of farmed fish species in the Scottish and international aquaculture industry. The role The successful candidate will take a leading and practical role in the management and handling of data generated by this and several other projects housed in the WellFish Tech Ltd. It is envisaged that this will involve the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning including algorithm development, to enable the substantial fish health database developed in WellFish Tech Ltd to identify the early development of a health challenge in salmonid aquaculture. The candidate will have the opportunity to gain the relevant biological knowledge by working closely with staff and research assistant in the WellFish Tech Ltd. This industry focused research shall aid the development and commercialisation of a holistic diagnostic approach to fish health in aquaculture. The research will be carried out between WellFish Tech and School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS), both located in the UWS Paisley campus in collaboration with aquaculture industry customers. The post holder will be joining a team of academic staff, scientists/researchers from WellFish Tech and experts from industry working in this area. What is KTP? The candidate The successful candidate must be educated to a minimum of 2.1 in Computer Science/Data Science or a relevant degree in the areas of Software Engineering/Development, Information Technology, or Telecommunication. The successful candidate must be in post by 31/07/2024. Essential skills required for the KTP Associate: Expertise in programming language like Python, Java, C/C or Matlab Prior experience of working with machine learning libraries such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, AutoML and alike. Experience in developing complete data science pipeline focusing on core areas of data gathering, preparing, modelling and data driven insight. Sound understanding of data exploratory analysis using diverse qualitative and quantitative techniques. Experience of utilizing data visualization techniques to effectively present intricate analyses, ensuring comprehension among a wide range of stakeholders. Hands-on experience of data management both locally and DaaS (cloud). Expertise in software development models, techniques and best practices. Experience in software design, documentation and management.
