Engage with journalists and manage press inquiries. Create, edit, and distribute media materials including press releases and statements. Monitor and report on media coverage related to the company. Work closely with the marketing team to align media campaigns with marketing strategies. Ensure all media activities adhere to industry regulations and company standards. Manage crisis communications when necessary. Contribute to the development of the company's public image and brand reputation. Profile A successful Media Officer should have: A degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. Proven experience in a media-related role within the public sector. Strong written and verbal communication skills. A solid understanding of the UK media landscape. Ability to work under pressure and manage crisis communications effectively. Morgan Hunt is working with a Brighton based Regulatory body in search of a permanent Media Officer to join a busy press and communications team. The position offers hybrid working from the Brighton office and a salary of £32k p/a alongside one of the best pension schemes in the country. The key responsibilities of the Media Officer: Dealing with journalists, stakeholders, and other government bodies, and proactively managing media enquiries and reputational issues as required. Producing and sell in high-quality press releases, articles, blogs and podcasts to core pensions trade press, national print and broadcast media and business sector publications. Building and maintaining strong relationships with key press contacts. Generating media and public relations opportunities to raise awareness of the regulator's work to promote high standards across the industry. Advising colleagues, including the regulator's Board and senior management team, on media-handling strategies, statements, and lines to take. Participate in our out-of-hours rota as required - approximately one week per month. Creating content for the organisations blog, podcast and other channels Work dynamically to provide support to other communication functions as appropriate. Previous experience and skills of the new Media officer: Proven experience in media relations or PR with a strong news sense and judgement. Excellent spoken and written communication and organisational skills. A self-starter - able to generate creative ideas and opportunities to highlight organisational messages. Ability to quickly absorb and understand information on complex policy or legal issues and the ability to translate this material into succinct, relevant, and engaging content. Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines, often having to prioritise to meet unexpected or changing workload. Ability to advise, influence and persuade others, often at senior levels.
