Communications & Media Officer

Our Client;

We are proud to be workling alongside a town council who is ambitious to grow and improve its external communications and media coverage. They want to reach all sections of their communities through well planned and targeted communications.

The Role;

The Communications and Media Officer will play a key role in implementing and delivering exciting, modern and engaging communications for the Town Council across a wide range of traditional and digital channels.

Responsibilities;

  • In conjunction with the Town Clerk and in response to the Town Council's Corporate Strategic Plan develop a Marketing, Communications and Branding Strategy for all aspects of the Town Councils' services and facilities.
  • Seek out, develop and manage a high-level, collaborative and positive relationship with local, regional and national media by providing a proactive approach to the communications agenda.
  • Write press releases and content for the council website and social media, creating photo opportunities where appropriate and beneficial.
  • Advise and support councillors and employees, through the adoption of relevant policies, on how to reduce reputational damage and to deliver a positive, corporate and democratic image.
  • Produce engaging, accurate and interesting content for social media and the council's website for events and activities, in line with the Town Council's overall marketing and communications requirements.
  • Improve community engagement and promote a positive relationship with residents, visitors, businesses, voluntary organisations, public service organisations and schools by involving them in Town Council projects
  • Ensure the effective delivery of internal communications that support the delivery of the Councils objectives, supporting Officers as appropriate.

Requirements;

  • A degree or degree level marketing related qualification, or a track record of professional development, expertise and success in the field
  • Experience within a Marketing & Communications role
  • Valid Driving Licence
  • Knowledge of social media outlets e.g. Facebook, Instagram and X. etc.
  • Good decision making, negotiating skills with the ability to problem solve.
  • Competency with graphic design software e.g., Adobe Suite, Photoshop and Illustrator.
