Your new company My client is a public sector body that acts as an independent regulator withinHealthcare services Role OverviewThe Management Accountant will collaborate with senior managers and budget holders to provide financial guidance and support to specific directorates. This role involves budgeting, monitoring, and reporting financial performance. The position is due to the organisation implementing a new ERP system.Main Responsibilities Budget Preparation: Work closely with one or more specific directorates to prepare the annual budget, identifying efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities. Monthly Management Accounts: Prepare monthly management accounts, including journal postings, variance analysis, and forecasting full-year performance. Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with designated directorate budget holders, discussing financial performance and strategies to align spending with the budget. Investment Support: Assist budget holders in preparing bids for further investment through the "Gateway" process. This may involve costing, savings identification, and alternative option appraisal. Ad Hoc Reporting: Provide additional support as needed, including preparing ad hoc reports for Budget Managers and the Assistant Director of Finance. Year-End Accounts: Contribute to the compilation of year-end statutory accounts and support external audits of financial statements. Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with the management accounts team and wider finance to identify process efficiencies and improvements. Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Perform balance sheet reconciliations and reviews as assigned. Safeguarding Awareness: Understand and apply safeguarding policies and processes to protect children and adults at risk. Sustainability Commitment: Support the organization's sustainability aims and a net-zero plan where appropriate. Other Duties: Undertake any reasonable duties assigned from time to time. Person Specification (Essential Criteria) Management Accounting Experience: Demonstrated experience in management accounting, including annual budget production, re-forecasting, and monthly reporting. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with budget holders and key stakeholders, influencing decisions and negotiating effectively. Financial Insight: Synthesise information from financial and non-financial sources to offer strategic advice and insights to budget holders. Familiarity with financial modelling and sensitivity analysis. Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey financial information clearly to diverse audiences. Analytical Abilities: Proficient in analysing, interpreting, and articulating trends, variances, and cost drivers. Organisational Skills: Self-driven, able to prioritise workload, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality outputs with attention to detail. Collaborative Approach: Work proactively as an individual or part of a team to support the wider organisation. Professional Qualification: Full membership of a recognised accounting body within the UK. Excel Proficiency: Excellent knowledge of Excel, including pivot tables and formula manipulation for large data sets. If you are an AAT Level 4 qualified professional who is actively working towards achieving full accountancy qualification and have a solid background in assisting with management accounts, we want to hear from you! Your responsibilities as the Assistant Management Accountant will include: Assist with the preparation and input of budget journals onto the system. Assist and coordinate the production of budget holder's month end reports on a timely and accurate basis Assist with the production of year-end accounts. Support the external audit by preparing audit files. Support and collaborate with key stakeholders and cross functional departments with financial monitoring. Lead on business planning and reforecasting data collation to ensure timescales are maintained and information is presented accurately and confidently. Monitoring of expenditure on capital equipment and buildings throughout the financial year. To complete payroll control accounts on a timely basis. Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. To be considered for the position of Assistant Management Accountant, you will require: AAT Level 4 qualification and working towards full accountancy qualifications. Previous experience in assisting with management accounts. Good knowledge of budgetary control and experience of resolving queries. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
