Responsibilities: Advise and assist the Operations Director in the planning, organising, controlling and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all employees. To act as the subject matter expert on all H&S matters Leadership and management of the H&S function To assist the company in establishing objectives and targets to aid continuous improvement Lead on programmes of work and new initiatives across health and safety. Development and full compliance throughout the facility of Health, Safety and Environmental policies and processes To take a leading role in maintaining the highest possible standards of Health and Safety Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risk and promote a safe working environment Responsible for ensuring that all relevant Manuals, Procedures, Instructions, and Risk Assessments are relevant Develop and deliver H&S training programmes Ensure all Safe Systems of Work are in place and reviewed Management and investigation of all accidents on site, compiling accident statistics and carrying out thorough corrective and preventative plans. Experience, Knowledge and Skills Strong analytical and interpretation skills, with good problem-solving ability. Excellent understanding of HSE regulations. Health and Safety Manager - Stevenage Our client is looking for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join their growing company in this newly created role working in the property/construction sector. This diverse role ensures the continued support, coordination, and input into the health and safety requirements for a wide variety of projects, providing hands-on support on site. This role requires writing Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS) for numerous activities. You will be responsible for continuously reviewing and updating risk assessments, safe operating procedures, and safety statements, as well as screening project sites for potential risks before work commences. Regular inspections of active project sites ensure ongoing compliance with safety protocols, and you will liaise with external parties such as government inspectors to evaluate processes. You will identify areas of risk and develop measures to mitigate them, collaborating with senior management to create emergency procedures and promptly reporting any incidents. Maintaining thorough safety-related documentation and conducting employee training sessions on safe work practices are key components of your responsibilities. Additionally, you will manage relationships with clients, stay informed on legal regulations, and oversee the implementation of ISO standards, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in health and safety management. To qualify, you should be an experienced Health and Safety Manager with construction experience who can demonstrate the following: Must have construction experience. Must be well versed in writing RAMS. Exceptional knowledge of COSHH, CDM, LOLER standards and regulations.. Ability to access heights via ladders, scaffolding, and MEWPS. Good listening skills - the ability to listen effectively and receive feedback from the employee perspective without passing judgement. Cultivating strong working relations to resolve project conflicts and making decisions where necessary. Good organisational and recordkeeping abilities - the ability to maintain good records of all safety-related activities. High level management and implementation skills, including an ability to manage multiple strands of activity simultaneously. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and the ability to communicate with a wide range of people. Highly developed interpersonal skills, with ability to work proactively with people at all levels. Well-developed negotiation skills, in order to re-negotiate deadlines and resources without creating unacceptable risk. Excellent team player with an outgoing and friendly manner. Excellent chairing skills to ensure output led and effective meetings. Ability to work well under pressure in a methodical and organised manner.
