Purpose of the job: To work as a Key person and as part of the Playgroup team under the direction of the Playgroup Manager & Playgroup Assistant Manager.To provide safe, high-quality education/learning and a nurturing environment for young children. Enabling children to learn through play, based on our ethos. Term Time only Mon - Fri - 8:30am - 16:30pm Main Duties: To assist with the planning of the curriculum & develop ideas based on the interests of the children. To help set up the playroom & prepare activities with the children for the daily programme and maintain the resources and cleanliness/tidiness throughout the day.To help tidy away at the end of the session. To act upon requests as directed by the Manager and Assistant Manager To be a Key person to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents/carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met. To advise the playgroup Manager/Assistant Manager of any concerns e.g., over children,parents, or the safety of equipment, preserving confidentiality as necessary Keep records of the "key-children's" development and progress in the appropriate form using the online Tapestry Learning Journal To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation Participate in brief meetings after each session and attend staff meetings and participate in staff appraisals & supervision. To attend in-service training courses and meetings as required. To keep up to date with current issues and development concerning early years and to under take further training as required. To keep complete confidentiality any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learned as part of the job. To administer basic first aid if necessary To ensure that the Playgroup is a safe environment for children, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are always implemented, and fire drills are regularly practised thus supporting the member of staff appointed for Health & Safety at the Playgroup. To be come involved in the Playgroup'sfundraising activities. To demonstrate a firm commitment to parental participation, recognising the individual needs of the parent and offering support to parents where appropriate. To embrace the diversity & cultural values of all that attend the setting. To be able to work using initiative as well as being an adaptable part of a small dynamic team supporting other team members where necessary. GeneralGuidelines To understand the role of children's play in their physical, emotional, and intellectual development. To have a firm knowledge of childcare practises within a multi-cultural setting and commitment to valuing & respecting the diversity of those who attend & work within the setting. To challenge all aspects of racism at every level within the playgroup, including work with the children, parents, and the committee To create a non- sexist atmosphere by introducing appropriate activities to encourage equal development for both sexes, fostered through language, play and other activities. PERSON SPECIFICATION EssentialCriteria Experience of working in a pre-school setting NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent Sound understanding of child development, and of children's needs. Ability to work with parents and to encourage their involvement. Commitment to equal opportunities and understanding of religious and cultural diversity. Ability to write clear reports and have basic IT skills. Friendly, flexible approach Applicants must possess a clean Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to be considered for this position. MULTI ACTIVITY INSTRUCTOR DUTIES 1. Set up and maintain your Multi Activity area so that it is suitable and inviting for the children 2. Follow policies and procedures to make sure the children in your care will have fun in a safe environment 3. Plan and deliver exciting and safe sessions that are age relevant in line with the Barracudas training received 4. Provide safety instructions and demonstrations of equipment and ensure these are adhered to 5. Ensure that the needs of the children in your care are met with active supervision and attention throughout the day including breaks and lunch times 6. Accurate completion of paperwork relating to Multi Activity sessions on a daily and weekly basis 7. Encourage maximum participation of the children in the group 8. Work alongside other staff members who may come to assist with your sessions 9. Checking the Multi Activity equipment efficiently and regularly 10. Take responsibility for general welfare and safeguarding 11. Lead the Motor Mania skills builder course 12. Maintain a tidy site and ensure all equipment is packed away 13. Ensure the safe use of equipment provided for your sessions REQUIREMENTS 1. Undertake our FREE 1-day Multi Activity course prior to your employment start date 2. Be aged 18 or over by the start date of your contract 3. Be eligible to work in the UK 4. Provide satisfactory professional/academic references 5. Be enthusiastic, caring and organised with excellent communication skills and be able to use your initiative 6. Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas or have an existing enhanced DBS on the Update Service 7. Attend a Virtual Assessment Event if you're new to Barracudas (See Staffroom for dates) 8. Complete Online Training annually 9. Attend Induction Training Day ahead of your first working season (this will most likely take place within the 7-day period before your camp opens) 10. Assist with pack up at the end of camp
