Chief Accountant Location: Central London Job Type: Permanent, Full-time Salary: £75,000-£90,000 per annum plus some fantastic benefits & enhanced pension We are seeking a Chief Accountant to oversee the financial operations and management of service & holding companies on behalf a global energy client of ours. This role is based in the firms London office and requires a candidate with a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. Day to Day of the role: Oversee month-end closing and review management accounts for reporting. Control cash flow management for treasury and manage group intercompany transactions. Coordinate the annual budgeting process, including the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial models. Prepare statutory accounts for compliance and liaise with external auditors and regulatory authorities during financial audits and inspections. Lead and mentor a finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and effectively delegating tasks. Continuously review and improve financial processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Ensure compliance with VAT reporting, PAYE Settlement process, and all financial regulations and standards. Collaborate with other departments to align financial and organisational goals. Required Skills & Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar position. Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or CPA) with 2-3 years minimum post qualified experience. Proficiency in MS Office applications and financial management software, with SAP, IBM Cognos, HFM being advantageous. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends. Strong leadership skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. This role is for an Accountant in a well known organisation in the retail industry, who will be part of the central team, based in Bicester. The successful candidate is expected to have a background in audit with a strong deserve to progress. Client Details The company is a well-established retail organisation. The company is headquartered in Bicester and operates across multiple locations worldwide. Description Highly varied role supporting my client across a number of workstreams. Considering the breadth of the role, the successful candidate is not expected to be proficient in all areas, so a desire and ability to quickly learn new subject is highly important Technical Advice: Providing central accounting guidance on Technical IFRS issues supported by senior staff Including IFRS 15, IFRS 16 and IFRS 9 both ad-hoc and at audit periods. Preparation of loan NPV calculations under IFRS 9. Monthly tasks Managing month end close processes that impact all sites and/or Central that use Power BI /Automation. Preparing accruals, prepayments and month-end adjustments. Sustainability Statements In detail understanding of Sustainability Standards particularly ESRS and potentially ISSB in the next two years. Liaising with Legal and Sustainability Strategy teams as my client progresses with Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD requirements, to understand financial impact of new sustainability strategies and to ensure that the Financial interests of my client are protected from Sustainability impacts and risks and ready to take advantage of opportunities. Liaising with Sites and Central teams under the Finance umbrella to ensure that stakeholders are briefed and can consider Sustainability strategy requirements for their own departments. Supporting the Finance team in the Limited Assurance CSRD audits. Power Platform Maintaining suite of Finance created Power BI reports. Maintaining and creating new Power Automate flows to improve automation of central tasks and reporting. Improving communication of reports with creation of How-To videos. Liaising with other departments to aid them in their own Power BI development. Ad-hoc projects and reports when required. Profile A successful Accountant should have: Ex Big 4/Top 10 auditor, 1 years PQE Advanced Excel skills covering as a minimum Lookups, Aggregation Functions and Pivot tables. Knowledge of Power Query and PowerPivot desirable but not essential. Experience with processes and internal controls Desire to learn about the Power Platform, particularly Power BI. Formal and informal training will be provided as necessary.
