This role has a starting salary of £31,262 per annum, based on a 36 hour working week. Your salary will increase as you progress through the programme. We work flexibly, with 2 days in the office and other days either working at home or in alternative locations. About the Team The Transport Studies works with different teams within the organisation. Because of this, you will gain knowledge of other disciplines ranging from Transport Policy through to Design, Construction and Maintenance with many others in between. It makes for a fascinating role, where you will be able to contribute your own transport planning and modelling expertise. About the Role Your work will include the analysis of issues and the appraisal of possible solutions as part of preparing business cases for funding bids. The use and presentation of data and associated analysis is vital to inform decisions and secure funding. Consequently, we wish to make use of your skills to develop this important area. Day-to-day duties include: Extracting and manipulating transport and movement related data to assist in analysis and interpretation: this could involve the use of GIS techniques Preparing information for use in assessment tools, junction models and microsimulation models, and both undertaking modelling and carrying out checks on models done by others Coding information such as representations of the road and public transport network for use in models, especially strategic models Calibrating and then validating models Assisting with assessment and modelling outputs and then report writing Understanding and using a variety of assessment tools, such as the Active Travel Appraisal Toolkit and accessibility tools Undergoing training in transport appraisal and analysis, transport economics, data collection, monitoring and evaluation, road safety, highway design and best practice Shortlisting Criteria To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following: Qualifications: either A levels (or equivalent) or relevant degree (e.g. geography, maths, engineering, GIS, environmental science, economics, etc.) Computer literate, with good spreadsheet skills Ability to work both on your own (e.g. at home) or with colleagues in the office To apply, alongside your CV, you will be asked to answer the following questions: Why are you interested in the Transport Planning profession? Produce and cascade reports both scheduled and on an ad-hoc basis. Complete all assigned tasks using the planning check sheet. Communicate clearly and concisely the following days plan ensuring they are made aware of any special instructions and time constraints. Key Skills/Experience/Requirements: Experience of distribution planning desirable. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office. Good understanding of the EU road transport rules and regulations. Effective communication skills The ability to build and maintain internal/external Stakeholder working relationships and communicate effectively with colleagues even when under pressure.
