This role involves budgeting, monitoring, and reporting financial performance. The position is due to the organisation implementing a new ERP system.Main Responsibilities Budget Preparation: Work closely with one or more specific directorates to prepare the annual budget, identifying efficiencies and cost-saving opportunities. Monthly Management Accounts: Prepare monthly management accounts, including journal postings, variance analysis, and forecasting full-year performance. Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with designated directorate budget holders, discussing financial performance and strategies to align spending with the budget. Investment Support: Assist budget holders in preparing bids for further investment through the "Gateway" process. This may involve costing, savings identification, and alternative option appraisal. Ad Hoc Reporting: Provide additional support as needed, including preparing ad hoc reports for Budget Managers and the Assistant Director of Finance. Year-End Accounts: Contribute to the compilation of year-end statutory accounts and support external audits of financial statements. Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with the management accounts team and wider finance to identify process efficiencies and improvements. Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Perform balance sheet reconciliations and reviews as assigned. Safeguarding Awareness: Understand and apply safeguarding policies and processes to protect children and adults at risk. Sustainability Commitment: Support the organization's sustainability aims and a net-zero plan where appropriate. Other Duties: Undertake any reasonable duties assigned from time to time. Person Specification (Essential Criteria) Management Accounting Experience: Demonstrated experience in management accounting, including annual budget production, re-forecasting, and monthly reporting. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build positive relationships with budget holders and key stakeholders, influencing decisions and negotiating effectively. Financial Insight: Synthesise information from financial and non-financial sources to offer strategic advice and insights to budget holders. Familiarity with financial modelling and sensitivity analysis. Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey financial information clearly to diverse audiences. Analytical Abilities: Proficient in analysing, interpreting, and articulating trends, variances, and cost drivers. Job Title: Management Accountant Location: Hybrid. Egham Overview of Job Requirements: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Management Accountant to support our UK operations. The candidate will be responsible for the first time implementation of management accounts for one business as well as to professionalise and standardise other financial processes and controls. We are looking for a stable individual who is a self-starter and does not mind working in a small team. Key Responsibilities: - Management Accounts o Maintain accurate accounting records and financial accounts; including journal postings, accruals & prepayments, bank reconciliation, debtors and creditors control accounts o To support the Financial Controller in preparing the monthly management accounts within 10 business days of month end o Provision of data, analysis and insight as requested. o Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations o Maintenance of fixed asset register with accurate recording and reporting o Ensure complete accuracy so as to minimise variance between annual management accounts and final statutory result o Ensure appropriate chart of accounts structure - Statutory Audits o To deliver the trial balance and all supporting documentation to our out-sourced accountant for timely preparation of the statutory accounts o To take responsibility for completing the annual audit with 3 months of each year end o Liasing with external auditors as required for audit planning and completion - Team o To work alongside the Financial Controller and help manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable personnel - Taxation o Prepare the quarterly VAT returns where required o Engage with external tax advisers for corporation tax filings and payments - Control Environment o To operate a strong financial control environment, designing or strengthening where necessary o To cover all areas, including but not limited to: payments, system reconciliations, assets and daily bank reconciliations o Develop and update financial policies and procedures as necessary o Oversight of weekly payment run, ensuring correct process and control is adopted at all times, including approvals and authorisations. - Ad-hoc Projects o To assist in the completion of any ad-hoc projects as required Experience Required Several years previous experience as a management accountant in industry Significant experience of accounting software, including ideally SAGE 200 Preferred to have accounting qualification and strong performance in Maths educational results Skills & Characteristics Required: Advanced excel skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills Enthusiastic and positive In-depth understanding of accounting principles Ability to analyse and summarise complex information Ability to work alone and be a self-starter Must be able to successfully work to and within deadlines Willingness to learn and develop your skill set
