Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Banking Payments Manager to join their team. You will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations in the retail banking division which provides inward and outward payments, clearing and other banking services to Retail and Private Banking high-net-worth clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in banking operations, retail / branch clearing and payments and a proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service. The scope of the role includes: Management of the team and the operational activities of the team Remaining up to date with all industry directives and initiatives and taking responsibility for implementing changes so that processes are and remain compliant with external regulations, directives and initiatives, especially in payments Group Standard Operating Procedures Local Policies and procedures Key Responsibilities: Oversee the daily operations of the retail banking division. Manage the staff, functions and processes within the Retail Operations Section of the Operations Department. Recruit, motivate, train and appraise staff Responsibility for managing projects relating to the functions of the section, working with the IT department and systems vendors to implement enhanced multi-channel payment solutions (e.g., BACS, SEPA, Faster Payments). Stay abreast of industry directives and initiatives (e.g., SEPA, Visa, Cheque Imaging) and implement the required changes. Identify and implement improvements to systems, processes, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs. Provision of enhanced management information (MIS, KRI, etc) Support the payment authorisation function as and when required. Other responsibilities as directed by the Head of Operations Qualifications: Good academic qualifications, degree preferred 5 years of proven managerial experience in a similar environment Good knowledge of anti-money laundering and other regulations relating to customer payments. Good knowledge and experience of UK payments schemes: CHAPS/BACS/Faster Payments/ Cheque Clearing. Good knowledge and experience of international payments schemes: SWIFT / SEPA / CHIPS. Good knowledge and experience of working with VISA and UK Payments. Good working knowledge and experience of Visa debit card production and processing. Essential Ability to manage people effectively (recruitment, training, appraisal, discipline) The ability to cope with non-routine, complex matters (eg handling of new projects and products) The ability to understand complex documentation relating to the functions of the section. Ability to meet deadlines while working under reasonable pressure. High level of commitment with attention to detail. Good staff management skills Good communication skills, both verbal and written High level of technical expertise relating to PC's and other banking systems (Excel essential) Deliverables: Successful completion of projects including identification and implementation of new and enhanced systems, processes, and procedures. Good management, training and motivation of staff Successful implementation of internal and external policies, directives, initiatives, recommendations, and regulations Minimal operational losses Achievement of targets and goals Ensure satisfactory internal and external audit reports.
