Location: UK Wide (Requirement to travel to Warwick site when needed)

Duration: 6+ months

Pay: Negotiable
This is a contracted role and is INSIDE IR35 paid via umbrella.

Please note:
A level of flexibility is essential as travel is necessary when required which could include weekend working during periods of public consultation events and carrying out overnight background noise surveys in the field.

The opportunity has arrived for an experienced Environmental Engineer to join my client who is the nation's largest provider of Gas and Electricity and one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world. Playing an essential role in delivering power to millions across Great Britain and North-Eastern US, they are a company that invests in the future of the environment.

You will be required to assess the potential impact of new assets on the acoustic environment, making recommendations to minimise the effect on sensitive receptors and manage the risk of noise abatement notices to the business.

What you will be expected to do:

  • Demonstrate you have experience in acoustics or Electric and Magnetic Fields (EMF), Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) in relation to the design and operation of transmission plant.
  • Carry out site surveys and desktop modelling in CadnaA and combine this data with your experience of noise associated with high voltage electricity assets to form the basis of your recommendations.
  • Demonstrate you have experience in leading the acoustic-specific aspects of Planning Applications and ideally, Development Consent Order applications.
  • Provide internal/ external technical advice and guidance regarding the potential impact of electricity transmission assets on the environment and the technical issues associated with operating assets in proximity to third parties.
  • Cultivate my clients strategic relationships with government, research bodies, campaign groups and relevant professional bodies, to protect the interests of the business.
  • Contribute to and influence innovation projects to enhance industry understanding of EMF/EMC/RFI or acoustics, protect our operations and achieve efficiency.
  • Resolve complex internal and external technical queries, under tight timescales, often for inclusion in external documents such as Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • Lead on all discipline specific aspects of a Planning Application.

What we will expect you will already have:

  • Strong knowledge and holistic understanding of the various transmission systems and associated technologies.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Asset Management framework, including investment procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills of all kinds with all stakeholders across the team
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Proven understanding of acoustics or EMF/EMC/RFI issues associated with operating transmission plant in proximity to the public.
  • Excellent understanding of statutory requirements with regards to impact on the environment.
  • Experience of both technical and reputable risk management.
  • Member of professional bodies relevant to EMF (applicable to EMF specialists only) MIOA (applicable to acoustics specialists only)
  • Masters degree in a relevant subject IAM Certificate
