Waterways Operative

We are seeking a physically fit individual who owns a car, holds a valid driver's license, and is eager to learn. This role offers hands-on experience in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater assets, providing plenty of opportunities for skill development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out daily inspections, repairs, and maintenance of water and wastewater assets, ensuring all tasks meet high standards.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service while adhering to health and safety, financial, and contractual guidelines.
  • Work closely with the scheduling team and management to optimize productivity and efficiency.
  • Provide daily feedback to assist in minimizing water quality and environmental compliance issues.
  • Offer technical support to customers and colleagues as needed.
  • Efficiently manage your workload to maintain flexibility and productivity across various tasks.
  • Perform a variety of duties, including meter installation, tank cleaning, pipework modification, and general site maintenance.
  • Ensure water assets meet cleanliness standards required for food-grade levels.
  • Support operational incidents and participate in an out-of-hours standby rota.
  • Work at a Water Treatment facility capable of producing 5 megaliters per day, which may include shift work and weekends.
  • Obtain MoD clearance as needed, with company-covered travel to various sites.

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Physically fit, with a car and valid driver's license.
  • Eagerness to learn and develop skills in water and wastewater asset maintenance.
  • Experience in civil works, plumbing, or similar fields is beneficial but not essential.
  • Basic understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with customers and colleagues.
  • Ability to organize and plan work efficiently, with a flexible approach to changes in work arrangements.
  • Comfortable using a computer or smartphone for work-related tasks.
  • Willingness to travel nationwide and stay overnight for training as required.
  • Self-motivated, with strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative team approach.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in O&M activities or working with water/sewage assets is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in safely using tools and equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of risk assessments.
