Location: Leeds, LS28 - must live within a commutable distance

Salary: £21.50 p/h + Benefits

Working Hours: Monday – Thursday, 7:00-16:45

About the Role:

To support our growth in supplying the defence industry, we are seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join our team. This hands-on role is critical to our busy production environment, ensuring outstanding quality and customer satisfaction.

LBBC Beechwood has over 130 years of expertise in the fabrication and machining of large, complex, pressure-retaining assemblies across the aerospace, subsea, defence, and marine industries. With ASME and Chinese TSG approvals, and extensive experience working with defence standards, we are ideally positioned as a global manufacturing partner for pressure-retaining equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with quality control processes and systems to ensure products meet required standards.
  • Conduct inspections and tests at various stages of production, including incoming materials and supplier components, identifying defects or deviations from specifications.
  • Perform First Article Inspections (FAIR)
  • Coordinate and schedule inspections with authorised inspectors as part of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Collect and analyse quality data to identify trends, root causes of defects, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Oversee materials processing activities, ensuring all materials are handled, stored, and processed according to quality standards, with the Materials Coordinator reporting directly to you.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain quality throughout the manufacturing process and address supplier-related quality issues.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Conduct internal audits to assess the effectiveness of quality management systems and recommend improvements.
  • Evaluate and approve suppliers through audits, ensuring they meet required quality standards.
  • Provide training and support to production staff on quality control procedures and best practices.
  • Review and verify supplier documentation for compliance with specifications.
  • Manage non-conformance issues, coordinating corrective actions with internal departments and suppliers.
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, reduce waste, and increase efficiency.
  • Maintain detailed records of quality issues, test results, corrective actions, and prepare reports for management.
  • Assist in collating data dossiers for pressure vessel code compliance and defence projects.

Who We're Looking For:

Qualifications:

  • ONC / HNC / HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Membership of Chartered Quality Institute or similar is advantageous.

Experience and Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years in progressively responsible Quality Engineering roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of ISO 9001:2015.
  • Good understanding of GD&T and measurement processes.
  • Good knowledge and experience of using CMM machines
  • Experience with ERP systems.
  • Experience working with quality plans and ITPs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Methodical, organised work style.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Why, 8D).
  • General knowledge of fabrication, welding, and machining processes.
  • Familiarity with ASME BPVC and UK DEF STAN is advantageous.
