Learning & Development Director

We have a fantastic opportunity available for an experienced L&D Director to join this significant national support services firm for an 8 month (maternity cover) contract and take on the responsibiltiy for the smooth running of the L&D function including owning the delivery of the Apprenticeship programme and managing the relationships with OFSTED and the funding agency ESFA.

In this role, the L&D Director will be responsible for driving the strategic development and execution of talent management, succession planning, and enhancing the overall colleague experience. You will work closely with senior leaders to identify high-potential employees and rising stars, ensuring robust succession plans are in place for critical roles across the business. A key focus will be on creating tailored development opportunities to nurture internal talent, aligning them with future business needs. Additionally, you will lead initiatives to enhance employee engageent, utilising insights from engagement surveys to identify areas for improvement and action plans that foster a positive, inclusive workplace culture. Your efforts will contribute to increasing employee satisfaction, retention, and long-term career growth within the client.

Full spec available on request. The role offers an 8 month contract paying a pro rata'd annual salay up to £100K + benefits. It supports remote working with occasional travel to the client's HQ in th South East of England.

Experience & Skills Required:

  • Deep understanding of learning in complex organisations and how development and learning objectives are supported through technology, processes, policies and services. Strong financial experience of managing a complex P&L with inter-business costing requirements.
  • Experience and demonstrable ability to understand operational learning and development challenges, and be able to demonstrate the support of those ambitions through learning technology, services, processes and policies
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Apprenticeship Levy
  • Understanding of the OFSTED inspections and ESFA government funding requirements
  • The roleholder will hold a strong background in development of early careers e.g. Modern Apprentices / Graduates
  • Established networks externally with training providers and external think tanks
  • Extensive understanding of learning management technology
  • 3rd party supplier / contract management driving process and operational improvements
  • Well developed relationship and stakeholder management skills, capable of Influencing senior stakeholders
  • Innovative mindset, creative and capable of supporting driving ideas into tangible output.
  • Budget management experience essential
