Magazine Editor and Event Host

Posted by SME Graduate Employment Ltd.

You'll probably be a Journalism / Media graduate who has had a couple of years experience in a journalism related job following graduation.

And now you're ready to take the next step.

You'll be managing content for specialist magazines, and newsletters; and taking full responsibility for the success of the platforms.

And you'll also be compering around 6 events a year.

The content of the publications will be down to you; you'll be developing ideas for articles, interviews and features. They will generally be based around the events; for example, interviews with speakers. There may also be one-off specials, covering the USA market, for example.

You'll be doing a lot of the writing yourself; and also using freelance journalists, particularly for the international market. It will be down to you to make sure the content is interesting and engaging; and that everything goes out on time.

You'll be the in-person host for the events, up there presenting; delivering welcoming speeches, moderating questions for panel debates, and introducing speakers to the stage.

WHAT YOU'LL BE COVERING...

The business specialises in 4 key areas: Hydrogen, Transport, Housing, and Health. There are 2 jobs available, and each of you will be responsible for one of these areas (preferably Hydrogen, or Health), and you'll manage the others between you.

A BIT ABOUT YOU...

Your written content will need to be strong.

And you'll need to want to be a presenter, and have the aptitude to do it. You don't need to have had any experience with this (you'll get some guidance), but you should be happy with the thought of presenting to a room full of people.

An interest in any of the 4 areas would be an advantage, but is not essential.

WHERE YOU'LL BE DOING IT...

The offices are in Macclesfield, and are commutable from areas including Stockport, Congleton, Buxton, and the north-side of Stoke. The events are in different parts of the UK.

WHAT YOU'LL GET...

A starting salary of £40,000-45,000 with reviews and rises when you are in the job
