Project Officer - Outdoor Signage

Posted by National Trust.

Summary

When you go for a walk, do you notice when there's an arrow pointing in the wrong direction? When it's not clear how to pay for parking? When there's an apostrophe missing on the poster? If you're that person, and you love the Lake District, then this is the job for you.

If you're still reading this then you may have already noticed that the National Trust's current signage, waymarking and interpretation is looking a bit tired across many of our outdoor locations in the Lakes. As Project Officer, working with teams across the National Park, you'll be the one to fix it.

Interviews are planned for Friday 22 November 2024 and will take place in person at our National Trust Regional Office in Grasmere, Ambleside, LA22 9QZ.

This is a full-time role for a fixed contract term of two years. You're going to need to spend some time at our sites, but we can be flexible about hybrid working. We are also willing to consider this role as a secondment.

If you have any questions, or would like an informal chat about the role, please contact Amy Pitch, Visitor Operations & Experience Manager: .uk

What it's like to work here

As well as being surrounded by breathtaking landscapes, you'll be part of our Visitor Operations team, working with site managers and a range of specialists to design and deliver the new signage across our outdoor sites.

What you'll be doing

By the end of your two-year contract, you will have delivered improved site signage making it easier for visitors to find their way, and found new ways for us to fundraise and talk about our charitable cause. This includes:

  • Full outdoor signage audit completed of the National Trust outdoor sites within the project scope
  • Engagement with stakeholders for management and installation of safety signage, focussing on Cathedral Quarry and Windermere lakeshore

  • Development and implementation of a plan to manage signage standards into the future
  • Through well-designed fundraising messaging, increased donations and awareness of the work of the National Trust in the Lake District
  • You will be responsible for the planning, coordination, delivery and reporting throughout the life of this project

You'll be doing this at some of the most iconic National Trust sites in the Lake District – Tarn Hows, Cathedral Quarry, Windermere lakeshore, Langdale and Ullswater Valleys to name just a few.

Who we're looking for

  • Project management – You will deliver the project to cost, time and quality targets
