Our client is seeking a meticulous Quantity Surveyor to join their team and play a pivotal role in our construction endeavours. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional to utilise their expertise in assessing costs, managing budgets, and optimising resource allocation across diverse projects. Day-to-day of the role:

  • Act as a senior QS, leading projects to ensure completion within budget.
  • Work autonomously and within a team, leading on cost planning and control of projects.
  • Undertake all aspects of cost planning, life cycle costing, and budgetary control.
  • Provide cost advice at inception, feasibility stages, and when bidding for funding.
  • Liaise with internal and external clients, dealing with queries and providing cost control advice.
  • Prepare tender documents, including schedules and bills of quantities.
  • Analyse tenders and prepare reports for acceptance.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • Monitor and analyse contract performance on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Liaise with contracts management for the commercial administration of contracts.
  • Prepare and approve draft sub-contracts as per the Group's Commercial Procedures.
  • Supervise, mentor, and encourage junior staff in their professional development.
  • Ensure timely submission of contract payment applications and cash collection.
  • Manage meetings and have line management responsibility for the commercial team.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Sound understanding of the construction industry.
  • Proficient in measurement and valuation, and knowledge of standard forms of contract.
  • Ability to read drawings, specifications, and understand the construction process.
  • Skilled in negotiation with clients/subcontractors and drafting subcontracts.
  • Knowledge of CIS and experience in risk assessments.
  • Ability to produce accurate monthly cost and value reports and financial forecasts.
  • Team player with awareness of dispute procedures and value engineering.
  • Professional membership of a recognised institute (e.g., RICS) is desirable.
  • Experience of managing, mentoring and developing staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Extensive experience with live projects, final accounts, and resolving disputes.
  • Experience in procuring major works subcontracts and managing staff.
  • Experience in health, education, mixed-use, and commercial projects is highly desirable.
