Manufacturing Engineer

Location - Northampton

Salary - £40,000 per annum

Hours - Monday - Friday 8AM - 4PM

Please note the role is fully on-site

Our client's Northampton facility design and manufacture a variety of cooling systems and related components, including radiators and charge air coolers. One of the largest producers of industrial radiators in the world, manufacturing over 35,000 radiators a year for companies in the power generation industry, off-highway and construction markets worldwide. With the constant emphasis on innovation and technical expertise, this is an exciting opportunity to join the market leader.

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the responsibilities for this new role include

  • Control of process documentation (PFMEA's, Control plan's, Process instruction's, etc)
  • Review current processes to ensure that they are safe, cost effective and can deliver product to the required specification.
  • The introduction of any new process in line with the company change management system, ensuring that all documents and equipment are available, and that training has been provided to the production staff on the use of any jigs & fixtures.
  • Work with the Team leaders to monitor and interrogate KPI's assisting with continuous improvement projects to sustain and improve them.
  • Resolve manufacturing problems using data and root cause analysis tools.
  • Implement lean manufacturing and kaizen principles throughout the manufacturing processes.
  • Determine production times, resource requirements and costs.
  • Recommend and assist in design of required tooling and jigs.
  • Work with the maintenance department to ensure that production equipment is properly maintained.

Background and Experience - Must have:

  • A good understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Proven experience in the use of lean tools and techniques, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to present data effectively.
  • Knowledge in the use and control of business metrics (OEE, COPQ, DLE, TAKT, Cycle Times etc.)
  • A good team working ethic.

Background and Experience - Desirable:

  • Capital expenditure forming
  • 6 Sigma trained.
  • Proven project management skills

Qualification/Education required:

  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree preferred, A Levels, ONC, City & Guilds level 3, BTEC National Diploma Level 3, IVQ Technician Diploma, or equivalent NVQ level 3 qualification.
  • Experience of FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis), Kaizen/A3 (continuous improvement and problem solving) process improvement and Poka Yoke (error proofing) techniques
  • Understanding of design and production cost on include waste, downtime, scrap and rework.
