Data Engineering Lead

My client is on the lookout for an experienced and highly skilled Data Engineering Lead to spearhead a team of data engineers. In this pivotal role, you'll lead the charge in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining our cutting-edge data analytics platform. Your expertise will be instrumental in our technology transition, as we migrate and modernise our analytics technology and data models to fuel the continued growth of analytics and data science.

Title – Data Engineering Lead

Type – Full time, permanent

Salary – Up to £80,000 plus 10% bonus

Location – Bristol (hybrid working offered)

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, providing hands-on technical guidance and fostering a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
  • Collaborate with BI Developers and Data Scientists to deliver visualisation and analysis products that drive business value across various domains.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to define requirements, specifications, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Design scalable and efficient data architectures that meet security and governance requirements and support future scalability.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, conduct code reviews, and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Lead team scrum processes, prioritise and refine the backlog with stakeholders and partners.
  • Maintain comprehensive platform documentation, including data lineage and process guides.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data development.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • A visionary individual with the ability to shape future direction and communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, collaborative spirit, and initiative to drive projects forward.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a technical lead in data development within an agile environment.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python.
  • In-depth knowledge of data design principles and database technologies, including data warehousing and big data frameworks.
  • Familiarity with Airflow, Talend, AWS Lambda, Redshift, S3, Databricks, Tableau, and similar technologies.
  • Experience with testing, versioning, and documentation tools.
  • Knowledge of low-code technologies such as SnapLogic.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
