Security Controller

My client specialises in providing application-engineered bespoke solutions. They focus on their customer'smission critical and intelligent systems in the defence, security, critical detection & control markets. Their capabilities and technologies can be found on many of the world's long-term military programs. They employ over 4,500 employees across the globe.

My client operates mainly as a Tier 3 (sub-system) and occasionally a Tier 2 systems provider, in the Maritime, C3 (Communications, Command and Control) and Cyber, military and commercial aerospace, nuclear and industrial sensors markets. They use both research and development, to provide innovative, mission specific bespoke technological solutions to their customer's most complex problems.

They develop sensors and instrumentation and control solutions for harsh environments and mission critical applications when safety and reliability matter. They focus on their customer's success in every step of their process from sales engagement, quality, delivery, and customer service. Role Purpose To proactively manage and deliver a range of security and data tasks, accreditation's, systems and functions in order to undertake its day to day business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing all aspects of Security and Data Protection with the ability to hold roles such as Atomic Liaison Officer, DPO and Crypto Custodian
  • Reporting and escalation of security related matters to the leadership team
  • Vetting for all new starters / contractors and managing security clearance renewals
  • Managing all aspects of protectively marked material control and storage and destruction
  • Managing and verifying access control ensuring appropriate control measures are in place
  • Ensuring Security Aspects Letters are managed correctly
  • Security clearance for international visits, internal visits and visits to customer and third party sites
  • Liaising with CTSA, Dorset Police, ONR-CNS, MoD, Rolls-Royce, AWE and other relevant security agencies
  • Investigating and where appropriate reporting security incidents to relevant bodies and the leadership team
  • Subject matter expert with any security or data protection related queries
  • Maintaining up to date knowledge of relevant legislative changes and technological advances advising the business accordingly
  • Ensuring documentation, for example policies, exist to support and control overarching business requirements
  • Managing local Security Working Group activities
  • Creating, delivering and verifying training to support a robust security culture
  • Project/ad-hoc tasks as required.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Aptitude for developing knowledge and continuous improvement
  • Previously worked in defence or comparable regulated industry and able to demonstrate relevant practical experience
  • Expert in SPF (Security Policy Framework) together with a broad range of generalist security experience
  • Demonstrable experience of List X and List N requirements
  • Understanding the impact of personal style and behaviour to create an effective security culture
  • Good, clear communication skills and able to work in a precise and methodical manner
  • Ability to show flexibility when interpreting policy/guidelines across a changing business environment
  • Shows discretion when dealing with confidential information and sensitive/ambiguous matters
  • Able to prioritise activities based on profile (customer), probability, risk and other criteria
  • Networks with other functions, able to discuss overlaps and gaps with IT, Facilities Management and other colleagues
  • Confident and assertive, self-motivated, a quick learner with a flexible approach to changing priorities
  • Good customer service skills, an approachable manner and able to work using own initiative

Desirable:

  • Security Vetting experience, DISA membership and/or qualifications
  • Experience of Data Protection controls

Essential Functions:

  • Flexibility to travel throughout the UK
  • Full driving license

A bility to obtain a UKSV security clearance and must be a UK national.
