Job Description

Reed Education is seeking a dedicated and inspirational Learning Support Assistant to join our team in a secondary school based in East London. This role involves working under the specific supervision, instruction, and guidance of the class teacher to support teaching and learning activities in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support for Teaching and Learning:

  • Assist the class teacher in the organisation and management of pupils and the classroom.

  • Help create and maintain a purposeful, orderly, and supportive learning environment.

  • Promote the inclusion of all pupils, ensuring they have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.

  • Support for Pupils:

  • Work with individuals and groups of pupils to deliver learning programmes under the supervision of the class teacher.

  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.

  • Assist with the general pastoral care of pupils, including helping those who are unwell, distressed, or unsettled.

  • Support pupils with personal needs as appropriate.

  • Support for the Teacher:

  • Prepare and maintain basic classroom resources and equipment as directed by the class teacher.

  • Assist pupils in the use of classroom resources and equipment.

  • Prepare the classroom for lessons, ensuring resources are available and cleared away at the end of the lesson.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • Qualifications and Skills:

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills (relevant GCSE/Equivalent qualifications).

  • Experience working with relevant age groups within a learning environment.

  • Experience in general clerical/administrative work.

  • Experience in a relevant discipline.

  • Ability to work well as part of a team.

  • Understanding of classroom roles and responsibilities.

  • Proficiency in using ICT, including computer, audio, video equipment, and photocopier.

  • Ability to relate well to adults and children.

  • Ability to identify own training needs and participate in relevant training (e.g., First Aid Training, Asthma, and Epilepsy).

  • Personal Attributes:

  • Committed to promoting the welfare of all children and creating a safe environment in which children can learn.

  • Ability to observe, monitor, and provide constructive feedback on pupils' progress.

  • Dedicated to considering, at all times, what is in the best interest of the child.
