Trainee Vault Assistant

Our client are an SME established hi-val freight forwarder based in Colnbrook and have a new position available for a Vault Assistant to join the established team with the smooth running of the vault P.O.D system and warehouse. Working Monday to Friday with a one hour break each day, initially 0900-1800 then, once probation passed, working shifts of 05:30-13:30, 09:00-18:00 and 13:00-22:00.

The role of Vault Assistant involves, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Key holder for the strong room.
  • Remove shipments from the strong room and warehouse for vehicle loads, ensuring that each seal number is checked against each collection and delivery.
  • Receive shipments into the strong room and warehouse depending on size or value, checking seal numbers and blue copy docs, locate as necessary.
  • Keep the strong room clean and tidy at all times.
  • Complete a daily stock review of the warehouse stock and the strong room stock and liaise with the imports and export departments.
  • Review communications from the import/export departments and action as necessary.
  • Receive vehicles in and out of the warehouse following specific security instructions.
  • Send daily balance sheet to the import/export & Transport teams to check balance in vault.
  • X-Ray export freight.
  • Book in customs and sign customs release notes.
  • Release goods from Vault.
  • Manage changes with imports to exports as per requirements.
  • Monitor refuse disposal within the building.
  • Meet and greet customers to deal with hand delivered freight
  • Undertake additional duties, or assist other members of staff, as may be reasonably requested by your Manager or the Directors.

Employment Terms for the Vault Assistant

Hours of work:

Initially 0900-1800 then, after probation; 05:30-13:30, 09:00-18:00 and 13:00-22:00.

Salary:

£25-26k basic

Annual Leave;

  • 28 days per annum (including 8 national holidays).

The knowledge, skills and experience required from our Vault Assistant are:

Essential

  • Hold a full UK driving licence.
  • Have a good knowledge of the English language, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise own workload to tight deadline.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Be a team player, as well as work with members of staff in other departments.
  • Have sound knowledge of IT, including Word and Excel.

Desirable

  • X-Ray trained / NXCT certified.
  • Have experience of using a CRM system.
  • Experience of transporting valuable goods.
  • Knowledge of the local area.

Due to the nature of the role, there are a number of compulsory checks that must be carried out for the Vault Assistant:

  1. A criminal record check - basic disclosure, carried out by the Disclosure & Barring Service.
  2. A full 5 year reference history, with any gaps in employment scrutinised and accounted for.
  3. A driving licence check.
