Assistant Accountant

We are currently looking for an Assistant Accountant to join a local company to play a crucial role in supporting our Head of Finance with the implementation of finance processes and the management of our finance system, Xledger. This position is integral to our financial operations, encompassing a range of responsibilities from reporting and finance partnering to supervising a small transactional finance team.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Manage month and year-end processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Produce management accounts and handle quarterly VAT returns.
- Perform reconciliation checks on monthly payroll, including pensions.
- Maintain the integrity of the Xledger system and assist with cash management.
- Collaborate with the Head of Finance to deliver Management Accounts for the Trust and its subsidiaries.
- Present precise financial information to the Strategic Leadership Team, management committees, and Board of Trustees.
- Oversee audits and maintain the fixed asset register.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Full AAT qualification or equivalent progress towards ACCA/CIMA or qualified by experience.
- Proficient in dealing with VAT, Statutory Financial Statements, budgeting, and business planning.
- Knowledgeable about the financial operations of charities, including fund accounting and partial exemption VAT requirements.
- Excellent IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience with Xledger or similar cloud financial software is desirable.
