Science Technician (Chemistry)

We are seeking a dedicated Science Technician with a specialism in Chemistry to join our client's dynamic science department. The successful candidate will provide essential support to facilitate high-quality teaching and learning in Chemistry. This role involves preparing equipment and resources for demonstrations, practical work, assessments, and examinations, as well as supporting the wider functioning of the department.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Prepare science materials and equipment, ensuring all practical lessons are well-resourced with the necessary apparatus, chemicals, and visual aids.
  • Carry out risk assessments for technical activities and dispose of waste materials in accordance with CLEAPSS guidelines.
  • Manage the safe disposal of chemicals and responsibility for radioactive materials, with provided training.
  • Conduct stock taking, order necessary items, and maintain inventory control.
  • Maintain clean and tidy laboratories and preparation rooms, ensuring compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and services.
  • Support the department with reprographic duties and resource-related tasks as needed.
  • Assist with invigilating examinations as directed by the Exams Officer.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Good working knowledge of COSHH & CLEAPSS to maintain compliance with Health and Safety Regulations.
  • IT literate with effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work efficiently in a team.
  • Prior experience as a School Science Technician is desirable, but other relevant experience will be considered.
