A Specialist SEND school in Croydon are looking for caring and supportive Learning Support Assistants to join their team in September 2024.

The Role

In this role you will providing a range of support to students within the classroom.

This specialist provision in Merton delivers education to students from 5- to 16-year-olds who cannot attend school due to medical reasons or complex mental health issues.

In a mixed age primary class of pupils who are SEMH and Complex Medical Needs learners. You will have support from senior leadership and access to regular CPD training to support you to develop your practice with complex learners

The school are looking for a Learning Support Assistant with the following:

  • Experience of Social, emotional and mental health support /complex needs experience
  • A creative and caring approach
  • Confident working in of a large inter-disciplinary team alongside medical and therapy staff

The School

This specialist provision in Merton delivers education to students from 5- to 16-year-olds who cannot attend school due to medical reasons or complex mental health issues. Over the past two years their intake has doubled and they have recently relocated to this larger site to allow them to provide the highest level of support for these most vulnerable pupils.

The school provides a variety of services including outreach work (home tuition and in community provision), reintegration back in to school and a specialist KS4 provision for those undertaking exams.

Staff hold high-expectations for pupils with core subjects taught alongside a programme of well-being which includes an enhanced PSHE curriculum with a focus on self-esteem and resilience. They work closely with other services including CAMHS, education welfare and a range of therapists. Students benefit from a calm, safe and nurturing environment and dedicated staff.

This setting is part of a larger group of specialist provision schools across the borough of Merton supporting students who are unable to access mainstream education. There is an experienced, dedicated leadership team in place and staff are able to access both training and support to enable them to affectively support all students.
