Civil Engineering Surveyor

Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Council are looking to recruit a Civil Engineering Surveyor to join ourteam based in Great Wenham. You will be working on a full time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will earn a competitive salary of £42,403 - £49,498 per annum (pro rata for part time).

What we are looking for

We are looking for a Civil Engineering Surveyor to join our Investment and Compliance Team. The successful person will share our values, commitment, and motivation to make a difference for our residents, clients, and communities.

About the role

Reporting to the Head of Investment and Compliance, you will be responsible for the civil engineering function across BMSDC housing and corporate stock, which includes but not limited to, sewage treatment works, pumping stations, drainage works and car parks.

The role will be part of an out-of-hours call-out rota.

About you

  • You will Ideally hold an RICS accredited surveying degree or a minimum HNC standard and a NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety.
  • We are looking for experienced Surveyors with a thorough working knowledge of current and appropriate building works legislation, including CDM and Health and Safety.
  • You will have a good technical knowledge of housing properties and their building and service components as well as sound knowledge of building defects and solutions and the ability to estimate building costs.
  • A team player, you will need to be an effective problem solver, demonstrating attention to detail in your work and strong organisation and communication skills.
  • A full valid driving licence is essential to carry out the duties of this role.

You will demonstrate:

  • significant experience of working across both housing and corporate stock
  • experience of using design software, such as Autodesk, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and MicroStation
  • experience of working in a civil engineering service area within social housing or a related sector
  • experience of delivering civil engineering work programmes in accordance with the RIBA Plan of Work Framework
  • experience of managing multiple high value budgets
  • Knowledge of map creation software and photo imaging software
  • knowledge of statutory, regulatory, and best practice requirements in relation to civil engineering work
  • knowledge of contract law, building construction and regulations
  • experience of procuring and mobilising contracts
  • highly developed numerical and data analytical skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as a highly effective decision maker
  • excellent project and contract management skills.
