My client is an award winning practice and we are one of the few highly specialised firms in the UK to work exclusively in the areas of mental capacity and mental health law. A dedicated and highly competent motivated team.

THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor to join the highly regarded well established niche firm based in Hoylake within the Private Client department.

You will be required to work as part of a team and your responsibilities will involve you overseeing all aspects of private client work within the department representing clients in private client legal matters.

This is a developing department where your skills in private client work could help us develop. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication IT and file management skills and be able to work under pressure in a busy environment with a vision for success with the drive and empathy to assist others to achieve their potential.

You will also require a good working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and ideally some experience of health and welfare work in the Court of Protection.

What we are looking for:

Broad, well-established background

PQE 3 years (minimum experience required)

Professional with a pro-active approach; excellent client care skills and ability to deal with client matters in a sensitive manner.

Main responsibilities of the role

  • Report directly to and collaborating with the Directors to ensure performance targets are met.
  • Professional pro-active approach, strong client care skills and a sensitive and sympathetic understanding of clients' needs.
  • Working towards Supervising a team of one Legal Executive and one secretary undertaking private client work.
  • Ability to manage appropriate caseload types and complexities.
  • Attending clients, taking instructions, and preparing cases.
  • Dealing with correspondence
  • Maintaining accurate time and cost recording and other management records.
  • Implementing any recommendation made by the Directors following monthly file reviews, ensuring that these are dealt with promptly.
  • Ensuring compliance with policies and procedures including Lexcel standards.
  • Assisting with casework including dealing with a range of duties.
  • Initially working under financial deputy
  • Potential for your appointment as financial deputy
  • Financial deputyship and health and welfare deputyship applications
  • Financial and health and welfare lasting powers of attorney applications
  • Assisting clients with applications to the Court of Protection for personal welfare deputyships.
  • Effectively managing files including costs and time recording
  • Visiting clients (some of whom lack capacity)
  • Key Skills required:
  • Committed team player and adapt well to new challenges.
  • Ideally previous experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent analytical and organisational skills
  • Ability to use own initiative and sound judgement.
  • Working knowledge of deputyship work and can service privately funded cases.
  • Ability to research and problem solve complicated matters.
  • Excellent IT skills - familiar with Microsoft Outlook applications and document management skills.
