Direct Lending (DL) is an investment desk focused on providing privately negotiated financing solutions to sub-investment grade corporates in Europe, working with both financial sponsors and non-sponsored corporates.

The DL team, with circa €2billion assets under management (AUM), invests using the Bank's balance sheet, coinvests with third party capital raised by Deutsche Bank and DWS, and distributes to a small pool of debt funds.

You will join a motivated and entrepreneurial group of investment professionals whilst also benefiting from being part of Deutsche Bank's global market-leading private financing business platform. As part of Deutsche Bank's Fixed Income & Currencies (FIC) franchise you will have access to dedicated origination channels in multiple geographies as well as the Bank's corporate finance teams.

Your key responsibilities

  • Coordinate and conduct due diligence processes, engagements with management teams and supporting the negotiation of financing/transaction documentation
  • Review and build financial models in relation to complex transactions
  • Lead and coordinate internal approval processes including investment committee, credit, regulatory, market risk
  • Support the structuring and execution of transactions involving a variety of financial instruments
  • Support the team's origination work, including meeting advisors, borrowers, sponsors, and investors
  • Ongoing portfolio management which includes interaction with management teams/ sponsors of Borrowers

Your skills and experience

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent relevant sector/industry experience (private credit, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), leveraged finance, consulting, private equity, big-4 transaction services)
  • Strong analytical aptitude including ability to conduct due diligence and assessment of clients' credit quality and asset analysis, reviewing complex financial models, plus experience interpreting and negotiating transaction documents
  • Understanding key macro and industry trends, with capability to map key trends onto specific credit analysis
  • Numeracy (including accounting knowledge), accuracy and spreadsheet modelling experience required. Strong aptitude for project management and network development with ability to work in a team
  • Track record in executing private credit/ leveraged finance and/or M&A transactions across a variety of jurisdictions
  • Excellent presentation, communication and stakeholder handling skills, with experience of working with third parties (including financial investors) to market and pitch investments (and/or for work)
