Salary – competitive depending on experience

Hours - Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week with flexible, hybrid working

Holiday – 23 days annual leave (excluding bank holidays) increasing by one day per each year of service (up to a maximum of 28 days)

About the Payroll Supervisor role

In our Steyning office, we are now seeking an ambitious and experienced Payroll Supervisor to lead our payroll team and support our growing client base.

As Payroll Supervisor, you will be supporting the Payroll Team Manager and you will oversee the delivery of payroll services for multiple clients across various sectors. You will manage a small team, ensure compliance with HMRC regulations, and maintain high standards of accuracy and client service. In addition, you will be involved in leading one-off projects including onboarding new clients, acquisitions and specialist questions.

Key responsibilities of a Payroll Supervisor will include:

  • manage the end-to-end payroll process for a small portfolio of clients, including weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls
  • review and approve payrolls prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • act as the main point of contact for payroll queries from your portfolio, providing expert advice and support
  • support the team with technical training and complex payroll queries as and when they arise
  • ensure timely submission of RTI returns, pension contributions, and year-end reporting (P60s, P11Ds)
  • keep up to date with changes in payroll legislation and ensure the team is informed and compliant
  • facilitate onboarding new clients and setting up payroll systems
  • liaise with HMRC and pension providers as required
  • support the Payroll Team Manager with various tasks including internal reporting, process improvements, onboarding of new projects / acquisitions

About you

We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • minimum 5 years' experience in a payroll role, ideally within an accountancy or bureau environment
  • CIPP qualifications (or working towards) is desirable
  • strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, including auto-enrolment, statutory payments, UK payrolls with overseas employers.
  • ideally experienced using IRIS Payroll Professional or has the confidence and ability to learn new payroll software quickly
  • excellent attention to detail and time management skills
  • ability to work well under pressure with client deadlines
  • strong communication skills and a client-focused approach
  • supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
  • ambitious, driven and desire to grow with the team and the company
