About The Team:

Commercialisation & Innovation

Consulting solutions has an annual turnover of c.£13M and 170 employees.

All national delivery teams work with colleagues in the Advisory Offices, with colleagues working in similar sectors within Research and Education, and often in partnership with other organisations. Clients include governments, levy organisations, other rural agencies, farmers, estates, rural businesses, supply trade, processors and retailers.

Our national network and broad range of expertise allows us to provide an unrivalled level of consultancy service to farmers, crofters and the wider rural sector, including services delivered on behalf of government.

The Programmes team group currently consists of 12 people in a variety of locations spread across the country. The team is led by the Senior Project Manager. The role reports to our Principal Consultant - Programmes who is responsible for the strategic aspects of the Farm Advisory Service and other key programmes and ensures the team is integrated into the wider organisation.

SAC Consulting is contracted by the Scottish Government to provide the One-to-Many Farm Advisory Service, the national advisory programme for Scotland. The programme provides advice to farmers, crofters and other rural land managers on a wider range of technical subjects, and through a range of advisory methodologies, including in-person events, peer-to-peer learning meetings, webinars, roadshow events, publications, videos, TV episodes, podcasts and digital tools. In addition to the Farm Advisory Service, the Programmes' team provides support to other national programmes, including Farming for a Better Climate, Farming and Water Scotland, as well as a range of smaller projects.

The Programmes team provides the core functions of the programme, including Digital Output Creation, Operations and Project Management, Communications & Marketing, and Event Management, delivering a high quality of service to both the government client and the programme audience. The Programmes' team provides excellent support to colleagues across SAC Consulting and SRUC who provide the One-to-Many advice through the FAS programme, ensuring both quality and efficiency. This role comes at a time when government demands in terms of both volume of delivery and quality of project management, data management, and reporting is increasing and the ability and capacity to deliver this quality of programme management is vital.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for an Events Officer Reporting to the Operations Manager. The purpose of this role is to work with colleagues to support the delivery of a large European Conference in Edinburgh, in September. Considering strategic objectives, resource levels at key points, balanced geographical distribution of events and appropriate support levels.

Scope of the role:

  • To provide event design and delivery support to ensure that events are consistent in look and feel, messaging, design approaches and working across as many areas as possible.
  • To take responsibility for an agreed number of programme events, including online events and to be accountable for their delivery.
  • This will include the construction and dismantling of event and engagement materials (including audio-visual equipment) at various locations throughout Scotland. These can be indoors or out (e.g. on-farm, conference centres, hotels).
  • To collaborate with wider SRUC events and communications colleagues to create and curate programme graphics, marketing collateral and promotional materials that support wider programme messages and convey a vibrant image of the programme.
  • Specific logistic and technical requirements include, where available, working from supplied schematic diagrams outlining positioning of material within each event, the driving and loading/unloading of the events van (including refuelling and washing the van as required).
  • Take responsibility for risk assessments and health and safety considerations for the events for which the Events Officer is responsible.
  • The post involves a significant amount of evening and weekend work, particularly during the summer months, including some overnight stays.
  • Working hours would therefore vary according to the events schedule, but there will be a peak weekend demand during the summer months.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should be educated to SCQF Level 5 or above.

The post holder requires experience and specialist knowledge relating the successful planning and organisation of a wide range of events. While, with the appropriate level of experience, an academic qualification may not be essential, a qualification in events management (e.g. HND, degree) would be beneficial, particularly to allow the post holder to progress to a position of greater responsibility over time.

German Language skills would be an advantage.

Eligibility for Sponsorship:

This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route. If you are a migrant worker you will need to ensure you have an appropriate visa to evidence the necessary right to work in the UK.
