Job Title: Medical Secretary
Location: South Tees NHS Foundation Trust
Hours: 37.5 Monday to Friday
Trust Location: James Cook University Hospital
Marton Road, Middlesbrough, TS4 3BW
What you'll be responsible for:
- Receiving, recording, sorting and distributing any form of communication and take appropriate action including escalation where appropriate.
- Receive and make telephone calls to/from patients, relatives, GPs, wards and other NHS and non-NHS professionals/agencies, follow through all enquiries in a friendly and professional manner.
- Acting as a point of contact for patients, carers, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Dealing professionally with sensitive and challenging communication.
- Assist with arranging and administering appointments and clinics as required by the service, e.g. urgent and routine referrals, elective admissions, and help to manage diagnostic lists.
You'll learn the following whilst working at the trust:
- An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS
- Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively always complete your role to the highest standard
- A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation
You'll have the following skills/experience:
Skills:
- Excellent telephone manner
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
- Excellent IT skills
- Audio typing skills/Med Sec experience
- Understand medical terminology
This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.
