Head of Engineering Design and Regulatory

This role will be instrumental in ensuring the global design, safety and compliance of their hardware and electronic products, whilst also managing/ mentoring/ developing a large team. Strong people management skills and a passion for people development will be instrumental for this role.

My client is a global leader in hygiene and pest control, recognized for its innovation and commitment to environmental sustainability. This role reprots into a Director of Innovation and Marekting, and responsible for managing products already in the market (product improvements, validations and global regulatory affairs).

Description

  • Oversee the electrical, electronic, and regulatory scope for all hardware projects.
  • Support the RI portfolio of products in-field and those under development as part of the NPD team.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the accurate execution of electrical, electronic, and regulatory aspects, laying a solid foundation for ongoing product production.
  • Lead the Product Validation team to ensure necessary capabilities and resources are in place to support the business.
  • Guide the Regulatory team to provide expertise and support, ensuring RI products are safe and legally compliant.
  • Direct the In-Life Product Engineering Solutions team to offer support, expert knowledge, and resources throughout the product lifespan.
  • Manage product development projects to completion through close collaboration with various functions across the global Hygiene & Pest Control businesses.
  • Supervise a team of 17 technical and managerial colleagues.

Profile

  • Expertise in electronics manufacturing and product design.
  • Relevant experience in mechanical, electrical, electronics, and/or regulatory environments.
  • Minimum of a good honours degree in electrical or electronic engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Experience in bringing electronic products to production with high-quality standards.
  • Knowledge of RF devices and protocols.
  • Understanding of regulatory affairs at a regional or international level.
  • Essential knowledge of regulatory approval requirements for household equipment in global markets.
  • Familiarity with CB/CE/cULus, FCC, RCM, UKAS, KCC, NOM, INMetro, BSMI, and HACCP standards.
  • Experience working in or with a validation and test environment, with the ability to apply and recommend test strategies to assess product lifetime expectations prior to release.
  • Previous experience supporting launched products and managing product improvements, cost-reduction initiatives, and product maintenance.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead a technical project team.
  • Ability to manage and deliver a complex project portfolio while identifying opportunities for simplification, standardization, and cost optimization.
  • Good analytical problem-solving skills, capable of generating and interpreting technical data, and providing conclusions and recommendations for follow-up action.
  • Working knowledge of schematic capture, layout, and Gerber editing software is an advantage.
