Press Officer, Temporary, 3 months with a possible extension to 6 months, £13.70-£15.90 per hour, 35 hours per week, Hybrid / London

Do you have experience of generating and monitoring press coverage? Do you have media contacts who can increase an awareness of animal welfare and promotional events? Do you have a dedication to the welfare, health and wellbeing of our canine friends?

An opportunity has arisen for a Press Officer to the Marketing & Communications Department of a leading animal related organisation.

This organisation significantly improves the welfare, health, and general wellbeing of all dogs throughout their lives, by means of various research and educational programmes, and their Charitable Trust.

You will play a pivotal role in securing impactful media coverage, and ensure the day-to-day smooth running of their press office, including:

  • Supporting with the planning, logistics and organisation of high profile events, and PR campaigns
  • Reviewing and collating media coverage, and overseeing PR reports and evaluations
  • Assisting the team in responding to media enquiries
  • Drafting proactive and compelling press materials about all things dog
  • Identifying relevant media opportunities and contacts, updating media lists and case study databases and building strong relationships with journalists
  • Coordinating the PR for specific projects or campaigns

Ideally you will have:

  • An interest in PR or journalism and experience of working in a busy press office environment/ PR agency, or as a journalist?
  • Experience of organising logistics for press events, as well as keeping databases, press materials and media lists up-to-date
  • Experience of escalating and responding to media enquiries
  • A good working knowledge of the national, local, regional, broadcast and consumer media and coverage opportunities and an eye for a story
  • Experience of monitoring media coverage and producing quality evaluation reports
  • Strong news sense and good knowledge of press office and newsroom routines, and how to prioritise under pressure and competing deadlines
