Curriculum Area Manager - ESOL

We are seeking a Curriculum Area Manager for ESOL provision, catering to both 16-18 and adult learners. This pivotal role within Further Education (FE) involves operational management, curriculum development, and delivery, as well as performance management. The successful candidate will ensure the curriculum aligns with the needs of students, businesses, and the community, providing an outstanding learning experience and meeting quality, recruitment, staffing, and financial targets. Day-to-day of the role:

  • Oversee planning and performance of all courses within the ESOL Curriculum area.
  • Maximise student enrolment and ensure the provision's outstanding quality through various quality interventions and support.
  • Meet targets and KPIs for attendance, retention, attainment, and other performance measures.
  • Review curriculum delivery regularly to optimise the curriculum plan.
  • Ensure student satisfaction benchmarks are met annually.
  • Embed equality and diversity targets across the curriculum area.
  • Manage and develop the curriculum area staff, setting targets, monitoring KPIs, and managing performance.
  • Deputise for the Head of Department as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all College procedures and systems, maintaining accurate records and timetables.
  • Manage the curriculum area budget efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain a safe and secure learning environment, conducting regular risk assessments.
  • Contribute to the College's mission and strategic objectives, collaborating with colleagues across departments.
  • Manage student guidance, selection, admission, and progression, addressing performance, achievement, and disciplinary matters.
  • Ensure compliance with study programme requirements, including maths and English conditions of funding and work experience.
  • Be responsible for quality improvement within the Curriculum Area.
  • Undertake teaching and/or training/assessing voluntarily, as approved by the Assistant Principals for curriculum.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or relevant Level 5 professional qualification in a subject related to ESOL.
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • GCSE A*-C/9-4 or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Proven academic experience in ESOL.
  • Demonstrated performance management of people.
  • Experience using data to drive improvements.
  • Knowledge of curriculum planning and development.
  • Understanding of student pastoral care and disciplinary procedures.
  • Experience working with employers and awarding organisations.
  • Desirable: Management qualification and/or Master's Degree.
