Neighbourhood Sheltered Officer - Grade 3

Due to the partnership between Hays and Birmingham City Council, we are looking to recruit an officer to join the Housing Management team as a Sheltered Neighbourhood Officer. Your new role

As a Sheltered Neighbourhood Officer, you will assist the housing officer in providing a customer-focused and consistent Housing Management service, while undertaking the full range of housing management duties.
This role is a full-time position, with a standard working week (Monday - Friday). You will spend these 5 days out and about visiting different scheme offices and visiting the houses within them, arranging visits with customers and completing admin and casework in between, and all house visits are on site.
You will be delivering housing related support for older people living in sheltered housing, the community, Extra Care or hospital discharges to enable them to continue to live in their own homes independently. Assisting customers in achieving greater independence and confidence by promoting their personal development and by working in ways that empower them. The role will involve both proactive and responsive work, identification and referral of cases to be escalated, and casework as directed by the housing officer.

Birmingham City Council uses approaches like prevention, early intervention, education and enforcement to comply with BCC's tenancy conditions and management policies and procedures.

What you'll need to succeed

You will need up-to-date knowledge and understanding of housing landlord and tenant policy and procedures where pertinent to the role, good case management, planning and organising skills. An ability to undertake risk assessments and implement/monitor safe working practice is required.

It is also important to have an understanding of and ability to comply with relevant legislation, including health and safety and equality in service delivery, service provision and employment. Experience in a housing setting is mandatory for this role.
In addition, this role will be an ASAP start,. Before starting, you will need to pass your reference and compliance checks. On registration please have your 2 most recent employment details available for reference checks. This role does require an Enhanced DBS - which Hays will put into process for you free of charge.

What you'll get in return

This is a full-time, temporary role based in Birmingham. This is a three-month, ongoing contract but may be open to extension. This role is a Grade 3 position, with a rate of £12 for the first 13 weeks before increasing to £13.20 per hour (PAYE).
Due to the council going through a period of transition, permanent opportunities may be available.
