The role of the Assistant Management Accountant - Operations is to support in the successful and accurate completion of the monthly management accounts and financial reporting, forecasting & budgeting processes for all Wholesale Depots and Wholesale operations business areas sitting under the responsibility of the Chief Operating Officer, and supporting in the preparation of analysis and insight to the business on the financial performance in these areas.
Key Responsibilities/
**Accountabilities -
- Responsible for supporting the financial accounting and period end processes for P&L and Balance sheet, including reconciliation of management information to financials, preparation of periodic financial and management accounts and supporting variance analysis in respect of Wholesale Depots and Operations.
- Support the Senior Management Accountant Operations in the preparation and development of monthly, quarterly, annual financial, non-financial management and KPI reporting relating to Wholesale Operations.
- Support the production of forecasts, budgets, long term plans in relation to Wholesale Depots & Operations.
- Support in the production of ad hoc financial analysis in relation to Wholesale Depots & Operations, as required.
- Ensure financial systems and controls relating to Wholesale Depots & Operations financial processes, reporting and other related activity are adhered to and maintained in an accurate and timely manner to mitigate the risk of financial losses.
- Responsibility for production of accurate balance sheet reconciliation for the any relevant Wholesale Operations such as stock, accruals, prepayments, intercompany and other control accounts as requested by the Senior Management Accountant.
- Support with the external auditor process throughout the year for Wholesale Depots & Operations.
- Any other ad hoc tasks or team cover that may be required from time to time.
**Key Activities -
- Support LEAN practices, identify and recommend and support implementation of continuous improvement and innovation across finance processes and solutions.
- Produce reporting to support the communication of Wholesale Depots & Operations financial performance effectively to key stakeholders and the business.
- Work closely with all members of the Operations Finance team to support the development and review of operational budgets, forecasts, and KPIs that aid achievement of company objectives.
- Preparation of month end, year end and BU and FC P&L reporting and variance analysis for Wholesale Depots & Operations.
- Investigate financial variances proactively with the wider Operations Finance team to identify root causes to support challenging performance.
- Support the Senior Management Accountant in visits to the Depot network, communicating financial performance and developing awareness of ongoing operational activity, performance and development.
**Skills, specialist skills, education, qualifications and knowledge required for the role -
- Part Qualified accountant and/or studying towards a professional accountancy qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
- Experience of financial and management accounting, journal posting, P&L analysis and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Experience of data analysis and working with large volumes of data in Excel and Finance systems, building models, analysing trends, drawing conclusions and providing insightful and meaningful commentary.
- Proven track record of delivering to tight deadlines while maintaining excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
- Experience of identifying opportunity for and delivering process improvement that adds value.
