Team Manager - Mental Health - Permanent

Your new role
Southend-on-Sea City Council are looking to appoint a permanent full-time Mental Health Team Manager.Within this position, hybrid working opportunities are available. However, you are required to be onsite at the Civic Centre a minimum of 2/3 days a week.The post manages both the Adult Mental Health Team (AMHT) and the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) Service. The AMHT undertakes statutory duties under the Care Act, including assessment and review of needs, creation and review of support plans and care packages, applying for and reviewing Court of Protection arrangements, safeguarding investigations.

The AMHT also undertakes statutory duties under the Mental Health Act, including assessing and reviewing needs/status under s117, providing Social Circumstance Reports for Mental Health Tribunals and Social Supervision for conditionally discharged patients.The AMHP Service is responsible for screening referrals to the service, coordination and carrying out Mental Health Act Assessments, participating in assessments and reviews of Community Treatment Orders and carrying out Breathing Space assessments.As the newly appointed Team Manager, you will be required to work collaboratively with partner agencies to improve the services for the people SCC support.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this position you must be able to work in the UK, have a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with the Social Work England and have completed your ASYE.

It is also essential that you are an Approved Mental Health Practitioner with 3 or more years qualified AMHP experience and have worked at Senior Practitioner/Team Manager level with supervisory/managerial responsibility.

The post holder requires good understanding of the key legislation, including the Care Act, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act and Human Rights Act, and how they shape the statutory requirements of the teams and, more widely, those of the Local Authority. They will need to be an effective communicator and collaborator, able to work across both the internal Council structure and alongside our partner agencies in Health, the third sector and the Police.They will be required to oversee day to day functioning of the two services and lead on change and improvements. They will need to be able to support staff to reflect on their practice, develop their skills and potential, and encourage collaborative working both within the teams and in conjunction with partner agencies.
