ASD Teacher (Secondary School)

Location: South Shields

Pay Scale: £120 to £180 per day

Start: ASAP

Contract: Part-Time/Full-Time

GSL education is looking for a dedicated and experienced ASD Teacher to join our secondary school community in South Shields. This is an excellent opportunity for a passionate individual to make a significant impact on the lives of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Job summary: As an ASD Teacher, you will develop and implement individual programs for the education of students with ASD. You will work with the students, their parents, and other colleagues in providing individual support and guidance necessary for students to succeed both academically and socially.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement tailored IEPs for each student with ASD, setting specific, measurable goals.
  • Adapt curriculum materials to meet the individual needs of students with varying levels of ability.
  • Implement and monitor individualized behavior management plans.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and caregivers, providing updates on progress and strategies to support learning at home.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of student progress and development.
  • Attempt to stay current with best practices in ASD education.
  • Maintain a positive environment within the classroom that encourages student growth.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Previous experience working with students with ASD in a secondary school setting.
  • A certification in special education, with a focus on ASD is preferred but not compulsory.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students with ASD.
  • Patience and empathy to effectively support students.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
