About the Role

Base Location: Perth, Scotland

As this position requires contribution to a shift rota system, you should be flexible, located within 45 minutes commute by car, and able to commit to shift work when required as part of 24-hour cover.

Salary: £62,324 - £71,370 + shift allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

As a Lead Control Room Engineer, based in our Control Centre in Perth, Scotland you'll report to Operations Centre Management within SSE Renewables, Onshore. You'll be responsible for leading a team of Control Room Engineers carrying out remote real-time operational control and asset intervention management of our Onshore Wind, Battery Storage and Solar assets.

Some of your main accountabilities will include:

  • Leading a team of Control Engineers to conduct safe, efficient, and compliant operation and control of our infrastructure, in accordance with national system operator obligations, regulations, Safety Rules and Safe Systems of Work, whilst maximising the value from our assets.
  • Providing training, coaching and assessment within competence framework for Control Engineers.
  • Represent the Operations Centre as key stakeholder and subject matter expert in the integration of new renewables assets, ensuring the asset meets control room requirements when handed over.
  • Taking proactive and reactive measures, as well as providing reports and assurance on performance of SHE and quality operations within the team.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have:

  • Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline, with industry knowledge and experience relating to Electro-mechanical generating plant/apparatus and/or distribution of electricity within the Energy sector. Extensive experience with alternative qualification (e.g. HND) may be considered.
  • Expert user and superuser of multiple software platforms and supervisory systems such as Distribution Management and SCADA systems. Also, an aptitude to learn new systems is essential, as are strong communication and IT skills.
  • Practical experience and strong knowledge of industry codes and safety rules such as national Grid Code, Electrical High Voltage rulesets and Wind Turbine Safety Rules, having held operational authorisation for multiple years.
  • Ability to adapt to changing workloads positively without compromising key responsibilities, to be flexible, highly motivated and have a genuine passion for the industry.
