Location: Chelmsford
Salary: £36,000 per annum
Working Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Job Description:

As an Equipment Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and ensuring the safe operation of production equipment. You will support the equipment build and calibration teams, assist with apprentice training, and perform a wide range of tasks aimed at minimizing equipment downtime and improving efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize and prioritize your workload effectively.
  • Adhere to good health, safety, and housekeeping practices at all times.
  • Support equipment build, calibration, and preventative maintenance teams.
  • Assist in the training and development of apprentices.
  • Identify and implement preventative maintenance needs to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Perform regular scheduled safety inspections and preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns, performing reactive maintenance when necessary.
  • Assist in sourcing spare parts and establishing stock levels for equipment.
  • Fabricate mechanical components as required for equipment repairs.
  • Suggest and implement equipment improvements to enhance performance and safety.
  • Provide technical support to production engineers regarding equipment issues.
  • Help produce risk and COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) assessments.
  • Identify equipment that requires replacement and contribute to capital budget planning.
  • Provide regular progress updates to the management team.

Essential Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Completed technical/engineering/electrical/electronic apprenticeship.
  • HNC qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Good understanding of health, safety, and housekeeping practices.
  • Ability to work from detailed technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and budget constraints.
  • Strong electrical/electronic fault-finding skills.
