Senior Web Operations Engineer

Summary

IT Digital are looking for a Senior Web Operations Engineer to support our team.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is likely to have a term to May 2025.

We are a team of 30-40 who build and support the Trusts customer facing applications such as the Website, Holidays bookings and the Online Shop. We are a Dev Ops set up which means we support what we build. Our Web Operations team work closely with our Delivery team to delivery change and maintain these systems.

Our systems are hosted on AWS. The resilience and security of our systems is critical and will form a key part of this role as well as the support of changes.

Please note the advertised salary is inclusive of a £10,000k reviewable market supplement. Your base salary will be £50,000 and you will receive the market supplement as an allowance on top, taking the total pay to £60,000.

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

The Web Operations role sits in the Operational team responsible for maintaining the systems managed by IT Digital.

The Operations team deliver continued change updating the underlying environments to ensure they are resilient and secure.

They also support changes to the applications by managing releases.

Who we're looking for

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what is possible in this role. For this position we're looking for someone who is/has:

  • Proven background in IT Operations, ideally Web operations and DevOps.
  • A deep understanding of technical concepts, modern web application stacks, service integration and orchestration, ITIL, change, incident and problem management.
  • A demonstrable understanding of IT Information security, controls, platform maintenance and threat management. Disaster Recovery experience testing and planning, full-stack performance testing and tuning.
  • An ability to independently debug complex distributed application and services.
  • Use of configuration management tools and automation tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins and Git and strong infrastructure administration skills, with a focus in Linux administration, EC2 instances and EKS.
  • Application deployment experience, CICD and source control and a familiarity with network protocols, gateways and DNS, and monitoring tools and techniques.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team and also working independently.
