Mental Health Support Worker

Overview:

Sensible Staffing are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Temporary Mental Health Support Workers to join our team, working in a prestigious private service in Dover. This role involves providing critical support to patients with mental health needs, ensuring their safety, well-being, and participation in therapeutic activities within our private hospital setting. The successful candidate will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care and support services.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Support:
  • Assist patients with daily living activities, including personal care, meal preparation, and medication management under supervision.

  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients, fostering a positive and therapeutic environment.

  • Facilitate and engage patients in social, recreational, and therapeutic activities as part of their treatment plans.

  1. Assessment and Care Planning:
  • Participate in the assessment of patients' needs and contribute to the development and implementation of individualized care plans.

  • Monitor and report on patients' progress and any changes in their mental health status to the relevant healthcare professionals.

  1. Crisis Intervention:
  • Respond promptly and effectively to any crisis situations, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients.

  • Implement de-escalation techniques and provide support during emergency situations, following hospital protocols.

  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of patient interactions, progress, and any incidents.

  • Prepare reports as required and ensure all documentation complies with hospital standards and regulations.

  1. Collaboration:
  • Work collaboratively with mental health professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses.

  • Attend team meetings and contribute to case discussions and treatment planning.

  1. Training and Development:
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities provided by the hospital.

  • Stay informed about best practices in mental health support and incorporate new knowledge into practice.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; a certificate or diploma in mental health support, social work, psychology, or a related field is preferred.

  • Experience: Previous experience in a mental health support role, preferably in a hospital or healthcare setting.

  • Skills:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong observational and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature.

  • Certifications: Current First Aid and CPR certification; additional certifications in mental health support or crisis intervention are advantageous.

  • Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

  • Successful completion of background checks.

  • Physical ability to perform job-related tasks and assist patients as needed.
