Trainee Researcher

This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team in a dynamic sector. Our client is seeking a Trainee Project Researcher to help produce detailed Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Risk Assessments and other desk-top studies. As part of the team, you will help deliver high-quality projects, meeting both contract specifications and budgetary targets.

Person Specification:

  • A degree in History, Geography, or a similarly related field.
  • Strong report writing skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven analytical and research abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software suite.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
  • A flexible, adaptable mindset and a team-player attitude.
  • Some familiarity with GIS and Cartography are desirable but not essential.

The Job:

  • Learning to conduct research, write, and compile UXO Risk Assessments (RAs) and Site Specific Safety Instructions (SSSIs).
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on reports prepared by other researchers.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc research for internal projects as needed.
  • Maintaining, updating, and improving both the Desktop Report Database and Map and Historical Database.
  • Conducting periodic archive visits to retrieve additional historical data.
  • Managing archival records to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Raising invoices for research reports.
  • Flagging potential delays or delivery issues to management promptly.
  • Liaising with clients to confirm that project scopes and report expectations are met.
  • Delivering consistent, high-quality reports that adhere to company and industry standards, including CIRIAC681.
  • Supporting the team with special projects when needed.
  • Collaborating with the Commercial and Operations teams to identify follow-up work opportunities.
  • Assisting in the continuous improvement of report layouts and methodologies.
