Salary: £39,868 - £44,086 per annum

Street Scene and Open Spaces Manager – The Role:

This role oversees a diverse range of services, including street cleansing, grounds maintenance, amenity horticulture, and the management of open spaces. These teams deliver essential services to both the community and visitors, from maintaining play areas and nature reserves to ensuring clean streets and car parks.

You will manage the teams' daily operations, focusing on performance management, recruitment, learning and development, team building, absence management, and discipline.

Street Scene and Open Spaces Manager – Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing and overseeing the provision of high-quality customer focused services provided by the Street Scene Teams, ensuring they are responsive to change and embrace best practice in terms of efficiency and high performance
  • Providing operational leadership, support, motivation and development to the supervisors/team leaders
  • Managing and supervising external contractors involved in the day-to-day delivery of services
  • Regularly review working practices and procedures to optimise the best use of resources
  • Managing, and assisting in managing, corporate projects as and when directed by the Operations Manager
  • Assisting in managing the budgets including monitoring expenditure for all the respective areas within the reporting lines
  • Monitoring levels of sickness absence and take appropriate action and support
  • Undertaking investigations as required e.g. service complaints, disciplinary matters, vehicle accidents etc

Street Scene and Open Spaces Manager – You:

  • Knowledge and experience of working at a management level within public services, with knowledge of frontline service delivery aimed at delivering excellent customer service
  • Excellent people management skills with ability to manage, engage and motivate teams
  • Experience of delivering grounds maintenance (amenity horticulture) services
  • Experience of delivering street cleansing services
  • Budget management
  • Excellent knowledge of health and safety legislation
  • IT skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills
