We are seeking an experienced Financial Controls Lead with a strong background in SOX & Controls. This role focuses on the planning and execution of financial control improvements.

Description

The Financial Controls Lead will be responsible for;

  • Oversight of ICFR Programme; Programme management of the end to end processes and controls that underpin the Group Financial Control Environment.
  • Annual risk assessment of the key processes that are in scope for ICFR and timetable to stand-up/stand-down any scope' changes with supporting detailed documentation of risks and controls.
  • Annual walkthrough and quarterly documentation review for each process to ensure all process documentation remains current.
  • Design and work with Internal Audit to develop Compliance Programme; ability to articulate mitigating controls in a suite of controls to compensate for any individual control operating effectiveness failures..
  • Work with external audit to migrate to an effective Controls based audit approach with a timeline by process for transition, ensuring audit fee savings are delivered and audit quality is improved.
  • Continuous improvement and maturity of the Financial Control Environment to reduce risk of error in an automated and efficient way. Regular review and assessment of the level of automation and prevent/detect control allocations.
  • Prepare Corporate Governance Updates to the Board and Audit Committee on Programme highlights and opportunities; work with the GLT to engage and mobilise ambassadors to support.
  • Create best practice templates for consideration of finance controls risks and controls and communicate to broader finance for self adoption on non core processes.
  • Engage and influence Process owners, sub-process and control owners to ensure roles and responsibilities are clear.

Profile

A successful Financial Controls Lead should have:

  • Strong financial controls background and experience of baselining and improving the financial control environment in a large company.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; relationship-building and interdepartmental working.
  • High quality, clear written communications (board papers, external reporting),
  • Change leadership qualities - coaching and people skills,
  • Collaborative team player orientation towards work relationships, strong culture awareness
  • Ability to interpret regulatory/technical requirements and develop robust practical implementation plans
  • Willingness to engage with a wide variety of activities and projects,
  • Change management experience - processes and internal controls,
  • ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualification
  • Min. 5 years PQE
  • Some experience of external/plc financial reporting
