The Fire and Rescue Service in Nottinghamshire is looking for an Assistant Head of Finance to join them and play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of our Finance Department.

  • Full time (37 hours, Monday – Friday)
  • Permanent position
  • Grade 9 - £54,697 - £60,182 per annum

The successful candidate will be at the heart of the Finance Team, deputising for the Head of Finance, reporting to the Chief Fire Officer, and contributing directly to the strategic objectives of the Service.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned finance professional to make a real difference in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the purchase, sales ledger, treasury management, budget setting, budget monitoring, year-end (Statement of Accounts), internal and external audits, and other finance functions
  • Prepare the three-year revenue and ten-year capital budget
  • Calculate the Authority's statutory precept and prepare data for the local authority and the annual precept leaflet
  • Oversee the final accounts closedown at year-end, ensuring compliance with statutory deadlines and CIPFA Accounting Code of Practice
  • Manage the Authority's capital financing budgets, working with principal officers to ensure affordability and achievement of corporate objectives
  • Provide financial advice and support to the Authority's budget holders and managers
  • Directly line manage posts within the Finance team

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Relevant accounting experience in a senior financial position, ideally, in a local government organisation
  • Experience in management and the ability to lead a department through change
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to deliver presentations and training courses on financial issues to a variety of audiences
  • Information technology skills, including advanced Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and the ability to use a financial management system
  • Detailed knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), accounting regulations and CIPFA financial accounting practice
  • Qualified CCAB accountant
