Are you ready to take the helm of risk management at one of the UK's leading companies?

At Markerstudy Group, we are seeking an experienced Risk Director to join our Risk and Compliance department. This pivotal role involves leading risk management across the group, showcasing strong senior leadership, and ensuring the effective management of key risk exposures.

You will provide critical insights into the efficiency of our first line of defence and deliver comprehensive risk reports to the Executive Management Committees and Risk Committee.

This is a remote position with occasional travel across the group sites including London, Manchester and Peterborough (but not limited to)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Head of ERM and Head of Strategic Risk and work with the CROs,
  • Provide insight into risk appetite statements, policy framework (group policies and business standards),.
  • Ensure the Risk Framework methodology and process documentation in-line with current industry best practice and future supervisory requirements
  • Facilitate identification of key strategic risks with Executive Committee members and their teams,
  • Embed risk appetite by developing forward-looking flightpaths to show path to achieving appetite targets.
  • Provide oversight and independent challenge to proposed change activity, associated risks and management of those risks.
  • Enhance risk management capability group-wide to ensure the group, and its business and operating units are able to effectively identify, manage, and mitigate critical risks which threaten the stability and success of the business.
  • Working with the CROs to drive the agenda and content in relation to the Risk Committee
  • Take the lead and shape the Executive Risk Committee,
  • Lead the design and delivery of relevant, accurate and timely risk related reporting and commentary to the Board and Board sub-committees, including Risk Committee and ExCo.
  • Facilitate education on the Risk Management Framework as required to across the business
  • To work collaboratively with the wider Group Risk team, directly influencing the development and implementation of the Group Risk Framework (including risk management systems) in line with broader organisational strategy.
  • Support and develop the risk team ensuring the risk plan is delivered in line with overarching Risk & Compliance vision and strategy.

Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience in a Risk Direct (or similar) role with financial servicers
  • Excellent communication and presentation skill to all levels to senior stakeholders, including directors and board members.
  • Outstanding levels of attention to detail.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and knowledge with the Financial Services sector
  • Knowledge of capital and risk management frameworks, inc. qualitative and quantitative risk aggregation
  • Work well within a team environment as well as able to self-motivate and use initiative.
  • Analysis and problem solving

Desirable:

  • Relevant qualification, e.g. MIRM, CMIRM or other equivalent risk qualification
  • Understanding of Risk and compliance frameworks e.g. operational risk, conduct risk, financial crime, data protection
  • Industry understanding
  • Experience of designing and implementing a risk management framework in a UK financial services firm
  • Experience of working closely with Executive and Non-executive Directors
