Head of Department - SEND

A reputable college in Sutton is seeking a Head of Department for SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities). This is a leadership role requiring a qualified teacher with management experience and a specialism in SEND. The successful candidate will have experience with Ofsted and inspections. This is an initial 3-month contract with the potential for extension while permanent recruitment is underway.
Day to Day of the role:
- Manage the planning, development, delivery, and monitoring of the SEND department, ensuring compliance with funding regulations and college KPIs.
- Line manage a team of tutors, assessors, and IQAs, setting performance objectives and conducting reviews.
- Collaborate with the marketing team to build relationships and grow income for the curriculum areas.
- Maintain accurate learner data and manage departmental budgets in line with KPIs.
- Work closely with the Director of Curriculum to ensure high-quality provision and meet retention and achievement rates.
- Oversee the self-assessment process and quality improvement plans, ensuring the department is 'Inspection Ready' for the Education Inspection Framework 2019.
- Conduct audit checks, internal verification, and moderation to maintain high standards.
- Integrate Learning Support effectively into courses and ensure timely submission of examination and assessment requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Qualified teacher status with a specialism in SEND.
- Proven experience in a management role within education.
- Familiarity with Ofsted requirements and the ability to prepare for inspections.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent organisational and budget management abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and departments.
